“One of my earliest memories of challenging gender inequality was at age 13, when my high school subject line choices included sewing and cooking classes. I wanted to do technical drawing [a boys-only subject].
With my Dad being a builder, I grew up drawing house plans and designing room layouts. I fancied being an architect or interior designer, but no, apparently I had to learn how to be a good ‘house-wife’. I cracked it and marched up to the Principal’s office with my demands.
A couple of years later, I believe they changed the rules. Damn, always ahead of the times!
Oh, by the way – I’ve not baked a cake since high school and I don’t intend doing so any time soon.
Life is too short to spend it doing the unnecessary stuff.
So now, as a proud and practicing feminist and campaigner for equality; I actively encourage women to step up into leadership roles, through my writing, speaking gigs, and as a facilitator of LEAN IN circles, business partner with the global LEAN IN movement, and founder of the ElevateHER community.
It’s outrageous that we still have unequal gender balance at the decision-making tables.
It’s unacceptable that it could take 170 years to reach economic gender equality [World Economic Forum estimates]
Research data shows that organisations with women on their boards and in their executive leadership teams, outperform those with fewer or no women in leadership roles
It’s time. We need more women in leadership – role models for the next generation.
Our ElevateHER - leadership development programs, group coaching circles, and retreats have been developed to assist women in building their self-awareness and personal power [to step UP] ... individuality and personal branding [to stand OUT] ... emotional intelligence and confidence [to speak UP].
There is no passion to be found in playing small... In choosing to be less than you are capable of being.
The ElevateHER - Leadership Community page was established to encourage and inspire women to build their personal power, to embrace their ambition and personal goals, to step up, stand out, speak up, to lean into leadership roles, and help drive generational change and growth.
If you are passionate about equal opportunities for women and the need for more balanced views at decision making tables; if you are seeking support and connection with like-minded women; if you are wanting to grow your leadership capabilities follow this page. Join the discussions and embrace the opportunities.
LEAN IN circles are small groups of peers [ideally 8-12 ladies] who meet regularly to learn, grow and support each other in their development journey to be better leaders in their lives, their homes and their communities.
Join a LEAN IN Circle – or register your interest for our next Circles, rolling out in Far North Queensland.
Vital LEADERS is a registered Champion Partner with the LEAN IN Global Movement, one of 1,400 partner organisations actively involved in addressing gender inequality, through running circles programs, promoting global campaigns, and sharing latest reporting and education resources.
We have established the ElevateHER – FNQ LEAN IN Network, with the intent to start a bunch of circles across Far North Queensland; providing co-ordination and mentoring to assist the facilitators.
We are busy planning our next ElevateHER retreat…
